Between 1993 and 2010, Tricia Penrose played the character of bubbly barmaid Gina Ward in Heartbeat
Gina was sent from her home in Liverpool to work in the Aidensfield Arms with her Uncle George Ward as a condition of her probation after she was caught with stolen goods. After her Uncle’s death, Oscar Blaketon bought the pub and Gina became Aidensfield's resident landlady. Direct and honest but friendly at the same time, she was known among the locals for offering good beer and a friendly ear.
Gina liked to think she was a good judge of character but, when it comes to men, she had a string of failed relationships. Gina was once engaged to long-term sweetheart Phil Bellamy, but she called off the wedding after the death of their baby, Daniel, who was born prematurely.
Although both Gina and Phil found new partners, they continued to hold a torch for one another and in series 16 of Heartbeat, viewers finally saw them marry. Sadly in series 17, Phil was shot dead whilst on police duty and Gina discovered she was again pregnant with Phil’s baby. She gave birth to to their son, Philip Oscar Bellamy, in the 17th series finale.
